After a long illness, Glasgow, Mo. resident Jerry Wayne John died Tuesday, April 22 at University Hospital in Columbia, Mo. He was 56 years of age.
Funeral services for Jerry W. John was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 25 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette with Rev. Roger McMurry officiating. Burial followed at Wesley Chapel Cemetery near Armstrong. The family greeted friends from 6 until 8 pm on Thursday, April 24 at the funeral home.
Mr. John was born in Wichita, KS on June 24, 1951. He was the son of Henry Thomas and Anna Mae O’Bryan John. A graduate of Fayette High School, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
He married Martha Ann Thompson in St. Louis and she preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 2000.
Mr. John worked as a caseworker for the Boonville Correctional Center for over 20 years, retiring in January of 2007. He was a member of the V.F.W. and enjoyed golf and fishing in his leisure hours. He was a sports enthusiast, interested in all sports he particularly enjoyed golden gloves boxing in Kansas City.
Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carolyn Northern.
Survivors include his daughter, Christy Neville and her husband, Larry, of Glasgow and his son, Steven John and his wife Marissa of Fayette, Mo. Four grandchildren also survive; Zack and Blake Neville and Carly and Cayle John. Also surviving are two sisters; Linda Maupin of Boonesboro and Diane Woods of Boonville two brothers; Darrell John of Wooldridge and Danny John of Huntsdale and his companion, Teresa McKee of Fayette.
