Edythe Mae Briggs, 88 years on earth, went to be with Jesus on Friday April 11, 2008.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. on May 10, 2008 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Clarks Fork Highway U in Boonville, with Pastor Luther Hermann officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. before the service.
She was born Oct. 21, 1919 in Coon Rapids, Iowa to Hettie and Morgan Evans. Edythe spent her childhood on her family farm north of Coon Rapids, Iowa.
As an estranged single mother with two children, she was a woman of great perseverance. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Drake University and a master’s degree from the University of Missouri. A life-long teacher both in Iowa and Missouri, she completed her teaching career at the University of Missouri (Columbia) loving and teaching “special needs” children and their student teachers.
Edythe Briggs has gifted her body to the University of Missouri School of Medicine, continuing her passion for education.
She was preceded in death by two husbands: Clarence Bartle and Ward Briggs; and four siblings: Bill Evans, Mildred Wine, Clara Galpin and Marie Gillbert.
Surviving are daughter Karen Brickner and husband Eddie of Bunceton, Mo., Vince Bartle and wife Kay, of Chesterefield, Mo., eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two expected this summer.
