The question
What is the construction work on Main Street?
The answer
The city of Boonville is conducting stormwater improvements at locations throughout town, including between Main Street and the C&R Supermarket parking lot.
Other locations include:
— Boone Village Drive;
— Elm Street;
— Smith Street; and
— Santa Fe Trail.
The purpose is to "better control stormwater run-off at those locations," Public Works Director M.L. Cauthon said.
The city is also building a sanitary sewer extension to two properties near Bingham Road. The owners had used septic systems, but city ordinance requires residents to connect to the sewer system if it is available.
"What happened, is years ago a lot of these properties within the city limits were built before sewer was extended out past their property," Cauthon said.
What this means to you
The city is spending $157,000 for the sewer and stormwater work. Weeco, a Boonville firm, received the bid.
The contractors started last month, and Cauthon expects the work to take three more weeks.
