Luanna Carpenter remembers when she taught fourth graders how to cut and paste pictures together — not Microsoft Word cut and paste, but construction paper and glue.  Now she cuts and pastes greeting cards for additional income through her cottage hobby, Cards by Luanna.
Carpenter started her card business six years ago. She attended a meeting of Stampin Up, a group which gathers to trade ideas about craft making, and she  became interested in creating cards.

Four years ago, Carpenter retired from David Barton Elementary School. She was able to move into card making full time.

“My cards are time-consuming to make,” Carpenter said.

The cards have intricate designs on them and can be multilayered. The cost of each card is $1.50 or five cards for $6.50.

Carpenter will sell her cards at Studio “C” Pottery’s open house on Nov. 19 and Dec. 3.  She also takes special requests.

“I did make wedding invitations and  programs for a friend’s daughter last winter,” Carpenter said.

Her husband, Miles Carpenter, and she moved from Northern California 30 years ago when Fuqua Building Systems transferred him to Boonville.

“This the longest either one of us have lived anywhere,” Carpenter said.
Carpenter said she is unsure whether the business will expand.

“If I can sell a few cards to cover my expenses, I am happy,” Carpenter said. “But I would not mind increasing business a little bit.”
