The deadline for entering the Missouri Fine Arts Top 50 competition at the 2011 Missouri State Fair is tomorrow, June 21.
Several other competitive exhibit and livestock shows will close soon, according to Missouri State Fair Director Mark Wolfe.
All entry information, deadlines and forms are available at the online Premium Guide, www.mostatefair.com/premium-guide/Premium-Guide.php.
Other professional and amateur competitive entries in Fine Arts are due July 20, including Missouri Junior 50, photography and porcelain. Sharing this same deadline are entries in Home Economics competitions, including the First Lady’s Pie Contest.
Wolfe said those wanting to enter 4-H, FFA and open livestock have until July 1, while young ladies wanting to vie for the title of Missouri State Fair Queen have until July 15 to enter.
Queen hopefuls must be between the ages of 17-22 and hold a current title of queen from a county fair, or be sponsored by an agricultural group.
Wolfe said, “The Opening Day Parade is another crowd favorite with entry forms due July 25. Entrants are encouraged to incorporate the State Fair’s theme, “It’s A Show-Me Thing!” into the competitive categories of antique and classic car, farm vehicle, theme float, equine, marching band and other.”
Online information is also available for new competitions in Brahmousin, Market Heifer and Open Light Draft Horse and Draft Pony shows.
Wolfe is pleased to introduce a new barbecue contest for burgers, bratwursts and wings. The Show-Me State Tailgate Throwdown, sponsored by Sonic Drive-In, will accept entries from the first 30 teams until Aug. 1.
“I am very excited about the new barbecue contest,” said Wolfe. “The first place team in each category will receive $200 and a plaque with the two overall winners receiving gift cards from Sonic Drive-In.”
Reserved camping is often another important part of the State Fair experience for the livestock exhibitor, which has an approaching deadline of July 26. The public campground opens to guests Aug. 4 and is filled on a first-come basis.
In addition to the outstanding showcase of agriculture, the Missouri State Fair, Aug. 11-21 in Sedalia, will offer something for everyone including a variety of professional free entertainment, a magnificent carnival and an affordable concert series.
