The Missouri House of Representatives recognized Boonville High School senior Michael Kelley Wednesday for his service in Missouri Boys State.
Kelley was elected vice president of the House at the eight day leadership program in June. He and five other participants received a congressional proclamation Wednesday.
“It really humanizes the whole experience,” Kelley said. “It makes politics seem more real.”
As vice president, Kelley was charged with formulating an opinion for his minority Nationalist Party. The students debated issues concerning Boys State such as safety and how to improve the overall experience, he said.
Kelley plans to attend college, though he is unsure where. He and his parents are looking at schools which rate highly in academics.
