Boonville, Mo. -

The following is a brief of the story. For the full version and a list of recycling locations in the area, see the Wednesday, Nov. 19 print edition of the BDN.

Going green is something that undoubtedly everyone in the Boone’s Lick has heard discussed in recent years. From home repairs to new household cleaners there seems to be endless new ways that people have come up with to help the environment. Another way, a way that is far from new,  not only benefits the environment but also employs 34 men and women with disabilities in Boonville.

Boonslick Industries began their recycling program in January 2005. Currently, they recycle paper, cardboard and textiles at their location on Ashley Road. When they first began they recycled 86,284 pounds of commodities. So far in 2008 there has been 1.75 million pounds recycled--making that a 2000 percent increase since 2005.

Boonslick Industries has been able to make the recycling program available with grants from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the Mid Missouri Solid Waste Management District. With the grants, the program has been able to purchase a truck, bins, a shredder, a horizontal baler, a compactor truck and a conveyor system.
