Paula Hogan, the manager of outpatient surgery at Cooper County Memorial Hospital in Boonville, gave a presentation at Wednesday night’s board of trustees meeting that focused on ways to improve the hospital’s acoustics.

It's part of an effort to ensure that sound doesn’t travel from one patient’s room to another and to improve the level of comfort at the hospital so patients feel at home enough to do things such as sing church music.

Hogan’s vision is to renovate a portion of the hospital to become a “short stay center,” something she said a lot of hospitals are adding in an effort to make their facilities more family friendly and to improve patient flow.

Also at Wednesday's meeting, the board:

  • Approved a motion to allow Chief Executive Allen Waldo to examine whether hospital employees’ health insurance could be switched to another provider that offers the same package at a lower price.
  • Considered  whether it is economically viable to hire a surgeon.
  • Discussed moving the hospital clinic location from New Franklin to somewhere a little farther away, such as in Glasgow, because patients being seen at the present location are those who would have traveled to the hospital itself.
