Jim Hackman wants to rezone lots at 208 and 212 High St. for possible commercial development and occasional public viewing of this log cabin. The house originally operated as Boonville Bottling Works and later served as a residence.

A Boonville businessman seeks to restore a 19th century log cabin and make it available for office use and public viewing.

An application to rezone the property for commercial purposes will be up for debate at tonight’s Boonville Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.

The cabin sits on High Street with a broken porch overlooking the Isle of Capri Casino and Hotel. It dates back to the 1830s, when President James Monroe deeded the land. Owner Jim Hackman recently purchased the property and wants to turn a portion  of the building into a two-office suite, according to a  planning and zoning document. The other portion of the cabin would be used for occasional public viewing, and a neighboring lot would be used for a garden.
