The aesthetic unity and lack thereof in downtown Boonville was the focus of an urban consultant’s presentation at Thursday night’s downtown revitalization program meeting.
Mike Hemmer, a consultant with PGAV, the St. Louis firm hired by the state for the initiative, gave an overview of the analysis work completed in the first year of the downtown revitalization program.
The economic development program examines cities’ needs and aims to link them with state agencies for funding. Boonville was selected as a Downtown Revitalization Economic Assistance for Missouri (DREAM) community in 2008.
Hemmer showed photographs he had taken of downtown Boonville and praised the look of the city’s “streetscapes”
“In the look of downtown, there are some great pieces of what it means to be Boonville,” Hemmer said to the audience at Thespian Hall.
He then described signage and code enforcement as areas where there could be improvement.
