The following is a brief of the full story. For the full version, see Friday's print edition of the Boonville Daily News.
As construction of the WalMart Supercenter continues, the completion date has once again been moved up. A May 23, 2009 completion date is now projected, at which time Brinkmann Constructors will turn over the building in its entirety to WalMart employees.
WalMart Project Superintendent Tim Sparkman gave a tour of the inside of the Supercenter Friday morning.
In the back of the building, the loading docks are placed on the east end. This end is open currently to allow trucks to drive in and out of the site. Once construction is finished, this end of the building will be closed in with brickwork.
Inside the building, the work is beginning to take shape. At the main entrance on the west side of the building, the left side will be used as a general entrance, while the right side will be used for the grocery entrance. Lining the right side of the store, Sparkman said that frozen foods, as well as a deli section would be put in place.
He also said that instead of having a McDonald’s as many WalMart’s have had in past years, Boonville’s store will have a Subway. The Supercenter will also have a pharmacy located near the entrance, but will not have a Murphy’s Oil for oil changes or auto inspections.
Construction workers plan to start the roof next week, finishing up welding spots on the ceiling around the many skylights that will remain in place when the Supercenter opens.
