About 230 people filled the commons at Boonville High School on Tuesday night to honor members of the Cooper County agriculture community.

“The farming community is a wonderful group of people,” said Charlotte Harvey, who farms in Cooper County and attended the banquet. She was visiting with friends such as retired farmer Tom Sites of Blackwater, with whom she went to school.

The event featured the presentation of numerous awards to students and people in the agriculture community. The Boonville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Cooper County Soil and Water Conservation District and Agriculture Future of America sponsored the awards.

Among the night’s winners was Mike Bryan, named the 2010 outstanding conservation farmer of the year by the soil and water district.

The chamber named Ron Rapp its crops award-winner for the year; Duane Timm its livestock award-winner; Orscheln Farm and Home its agribusiness award-winner; Mary Huth its women-in-agriculture award-winner; and Agriculture Future of America its service-to-agriculture award-winner.
