With six opens due to sickness or injuries, Boonville Pirates wrestling coach Christian Stock knew his team may win more matches but because of giving up 36 points on forfeit the outcome may not look as good during the Lexington Dual Tournament on Saturday.

While going 1-4 in the tournament, Stock said with all the people sick and hurt it really creates a situation where they have their backs against the wall. “We tried to go out and get better as a team and wrestle in every match this weekend,” Stock said. “Hopefully, we get through the bumps before we go to districts this weekend.”

The good news is that Boonville had four wrestlers finish the tournament with 4-1 records and another wrestler go 3-2. All eight wrestlers for Boonville also had at least one win in the tournament.

In the opening round against the Lawson Cardinals, the Pirates recorded wins in only three out of eight matches while losing by a score of 57-12.

Recording wins for Boonville were Josiah Searfoss by 3-0 decision over Josh Sutphin at 126, Rory Concannon by fall in 3:28 over Johnny Sutphin at 132 and Brennan Hammers by a 3-1 decision over Dylan Morris at 285.

In the second round, the Pirate wrestlers captured wins in four out of seven matches but still fell against the Higginsville Huskers 36-28.

Posting wins for Boonville were Searfoss over Levi Kreie 16-2, Concannon by fall over Colton Williams in 5:30, Cook by fall over Spencer Lane in 2:55 and Hammers by fall over Dalton Wiley in 1:56.

In other matches, Stevens lost by fall to Hunter Zuelsdorf in 1:27, Snapp lost by fall to Matt Elder in 1:43 and Nelson lost by fall to Ian Gash in 1:44.

The third round against the Brookfield Bulldogs was not so kind for the Pirate wrestlers, as they fell 42-12 while dropping five out of seven matches.
