Blackwater, Mo. -

The Blackwater Community West End Theatre will bring an original comedy to its stage May 3 and 10 when it presents “Blackwater News and Occasional Rumor.” Scouring the old Blackwater News of the years 1900-1917, the play was written in its entirety by the theatre troupe, based on true happenings in and around Blackwater.

“This play ... is named and patterned after the old Blackwater News,” said Blackwater resident and cast member Bonnie Rapp. She said the old newspapers are archived on microfilm and she culls excerpts from them for Blackwater’s monthly newsletter, The Echo. “Using the names we found in the old News, we created a historical comedy about our town.

“T.M. Horne was the editor and a more charismatic character you’ll never meet,” said Rapp. “He told it like it was – no holds barred. His private thoughts, ideas and contentions are visible in each publication.”
