U.S. Congressman Sam Graves was in Boonville Friday afternoon to discuss energy prices, the economy and illegal immigration at the Boonville Caterpillar plant.

“Energy prices are getting out of control, making it more expensive for families to drive their children to school, get to their jobs, or for small businesses to keep their lights on.” said Graves. “It is time for Congress to get serious and pass real energy legislation.”
Graves spoke about the need to wean ourselves off of foreign oil and his support of legislation to go after OPEC as well as those who are engaged in price gouging.
“Missouri’s drivers deserve to know that they aren’t being ripped off at the pump,” Graves said. “We need to make sure that oil producers are playing by the rules and not artificially inflating the price of gas.”

Graves also stressed the need for a long term solution to the high cost of energy.
“The long term solution to our energy crunch is to Americanize our supply of energy and go after the oil we have in our own backyard in places like Alaska and off the Gulf Coast,” Graves said.
