The following is a brief of the story. For the full version, see the Thursday, Aug. 6 print edition of the BDN.

Boonville’s Tourism Commission met with a light agenda Wednesday night for their first meeting since June. During the meeting, board members  heard progress reports on how tourism dollars were spent.

One report was from Boonville Jaycees representative, Jennifer Boggs on the success of their June 5 and 6 Rodeo that was held at the Brady Show grounds. Boggs said the Rodeo was a big success, bringing 230 contestants, and approximately 1,000 spectators. Advertising was credited for a large portion of their success which was sponsored in part by the Boonville Tourism Commission.

A second report came from Jeannie Anguaoui. She updated the board members with a presentation of the new tourism website which she is currently designing. It is expected to be launched by sometime next week. In addition to showing the main features of the new web site, Anguaoui gave the board members information about SEO or search engine optimization. That is a method or service that is a means for getting a web site in the top three listed items that come up when a search is performed.

The site will include: where to stay, where to eat and what to do. Boonville lodging establishments within the city limits, that wish to do so, will be allowed up to 200 words and two pictures on the site at no charge since they are contributing to the four percent bed tax to the tourism commission. Restaurants will be allowed 100 words and one picture. Franchise restaurants will have links on the site that will go to their corporate site.
