Boonville hosts veteran traversing US to raise funds

Troy Yocum, an Iraq war veteran who is on a cross-country hiking campaign to assist military families in need, arrived Tuesday in Boonville to what he called the largest crowd he had seen since stopping in Indiana. It also marked the 1,000th mile on the journey for Yocum, who  plans to hike all the way to Washington, D.C.

Yocum aims to raise $5 million for Soldiers’ Angels, a nonprofit organization that provides support for veterans and their families.

He started hiking April 17 in Louisville, Ky.
