Boonville, Mo. -

The Boonville Fire Department is asking for help to provide fire safety education materials to area children.

The fire department uses the program “Firepup.” Firepup uses age-specific, 24-page activity manuals, pamphlets on smoke detectors, fire escapes, baby sitting, badges, stickers, fire hats and many other items used to teach the fundamentals of fire safety and burn prevention.

“We strongly believe by making children aware we can prevent tragic fire loss and death,” Boonville Fire Chief Tim Carmichael said in a press release.

Firepup is designed by the National Fire Safety Council, Inc., a 501c3 nonprofit organization. According to their bylaws, all materials must be paid for through charitable contributions. For $2.80, a child can be sponsored for a full year of fire safety materials.

Twenty children can be sponsored for $56; 30 for $84; 40 for $112; 50 for $140; 60 for $168; 75 for $210; 100 for $280; or 200 for $560.

For more information, or to provide sponsorship, contact the Boonville Fire Department at 882-2606. For more information on Firepup, visit www.firepupmki.com.
