Frank Monroe Kite, of New Franklin, formerly of rural Fayette, passed away at his home on July 16, 2011. He was 82 years old.
He was born February 11, 1929 in Boone County to Charley Monroe and Gracie Mae Jones Kite. Frank married Mahala Elizabeth Ewens on March 23, 1950 and she preceded him in death on March 26, 2006.
Mr. Kite was a life-long farmer in the Fayette and Harrisburg area and also worked as a coal miner, logger and trucker, as he said anything to make a dollar to raise his family. He was musically talented playing the acoustic guitar and singing classic country music. He enjoyed raising a large garden and butchering hogs. Frank’s family remembers him as being generous and big-hearted with an ornery streak and a good sense of humor. Frank enjoyed life and will be missed by his friends at the Bobber and the “boat” in Boonville.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Kite (Kathy) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, John Kite (Dana) of Crocker, Missouri; four daughters, Pamela Shadwick of Yuba City, California, Edna Kite of Rocheport, Missouri, Maggie Nichols (Kevin) of Harrisburg, Missouri, Kathy Kite of Columbia; a sister, Mary Lou Smith of Columbia; and sixteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a grandson, John Kite, Jr., and a half-brother, Charles Kite.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 21, at Carr-Yager Funeral Home in Fayette. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Smith Chapel Cemetery near Rocheport.
