A Boonville man has been charged in federal court with producing child pornography in connection with an incident that appears to have happened at a Super 8 motel in the city, according to a news release from the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri.

The suspect, 32-year-old Matthew L. Klopfenstine, was charged in a criminal complaint filed Thursday in Jefferson City, the release states.

Law enforcement officers executing a search warrant at a residence in Troy in an unrelated case found two computer hard drives with images of child pornography, the release states.

"Among the computer files were pornographic images of a 9-year-old child that apparently were taken at a Super 8 motel in Boonville," the release states. It states that Klopfenstine and two other men are depicted in various photographs, according to a citation of the affidavit.

The photos were likely taken in 2009.

A Monday court appearance has been scheduled at the U.S. District Court in Springfield.
