A Community Improvement District for a proposed national retail store received approval  Monday from the Boonville City Council. The ordinance imposes a 1 percent sales tax and a property tax of up to $1 per each $100 of assessed value on the proposed Dollar General store and would not affect any other businesses.

Also on Monday, the council:

  • Approved a settlement agreement with Caterpillar, which owns a manufacturing plant in the city, on its personal property tax protest.
  • Approved a pre-annexation agreement with the Hail Ridge Golf Course developers to add 1,400 acres into the city of Boonville and extend a sewer line to the property received the council’s approval.
  • Discussed where it would establish the city’s 2010 tax rate. The council appeared divided on the issue of whether to raise the rate from 65 cents to 67 cents for each $100 of assessed valuation. Tessendorf said the increase would generate about an additional $20,000 for the city.
