Since the Boonville Area Chamber of Commerce first started selling Boonville Bucks, their goal was simple: to keep money in Boonville. The sales tax generated from shopping locally stays local, which benefits the entire community and helps keep local businesses in operation. In 2008, $30,745 of Boonville Bucks were sold. The Boonville Bucks act as a gift certificate that can only be used in Boonville and are valid at most Boonville business.
Boonville Bucks are redeemable at many Boonville businesses and is a free service of the chamber with the mission of enhancing commerce in mind.
The certificates only come in $5, $10 and $20s to discourage people from buying an inexpensive item with larger bucks and getting cash back if not all of the certificate is spent. This discourages spending the money out of Boonville.
Regular Boonville Bucks are blue and light green and can be purchased year-round. Christmas Boonville Bucks are red or green and were given away only during the $1,200 Christmas Giveaway promotion sponsored by specific business.
To purchase Boonville Bucks, call the Chamber at 882-2721 or stop at the Chamber office at 320 First St. Businesses can redeem Boonville Bucks by mailing them to the chamber or taking them to the chamber office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A check will be written to the retailer immediately in the amount of the certificate.
