A fire broke out in New Franklin late Thursday night in the home of Robbie and Laura Scott.
The fire station received a call at 10:59 p.m. that there was a fire in the Rosewood subdivision. Jeff Glandon, of the New Franklin Police Department, said that the house was “fully engulfed” when he arrived at 11 o’clock.
New Franklin Fire Chief, Charles Thompson, said that 16 firefighters from stations number one and two in Howard County were at the scene. Later, five firefighters from Cooper County were called in. The crews worked until 2 a.m. to put the fire out.
Thompson also said that the fire marshall ruled that the cause of the fire was a short in the wiring in the outside wall. The house is a total loss.
According to a neighbor, Becky Dowell, the crews turned off their sirens as they approached the sub-division. Many of the neighbors didn’t know that anything had happened until the next morning.
The Scotts, their daughter and her son heard the smoke detectors and were able to get out of the house unharmed.
“The smoke detectors saved them,” Thompson said.
