Demolition at New Franklin School began shortly after students were dismissed for the summer on Monday. The main entrance to the school, pictured, will look different by the beginning of the 2008-09 school year as the high school principal’s office will be moved here from its current upstairs location.

New Franklin, Mo. -

The New Franklin School Board met Wednesday evening with much discussion based upon elementary principal Pam Chitwood’s proposal to have gender specific classrooms for the 5th grade class.

Chitwood said she has seen substantial bullying in that grade as well as a decrease in the children's grades.

Chitwood, who has been studying under a mentor principal in Columbia, said Field Elementary School in Columbia has implemented the system in a few grades. Chitwood said the principal there “has seen a drastic improvement in behavior and grades.”
