The New Franklin School Board met Wednesday evening with much discussion based upon elementary principal Pam Chitwood’s proposal to have gender specific classrooms for the 5th grade class.
Chitwood said she has seen substantial bullying in that grade as well as a decrease in the children's grades.
“I am hoping for your support,” Chitwood told the board.
Chitwood, who has been studying under a mentor principal in Columbia, said Field Elementary School in Columbia has implemented the system in a few grades. Chitwood said the principal there “has seen a drastic improvement in behavior and grades.”
