Boonville, Mo. -

Sun-kissed and with the feel of sea salt a lingering memory, the senior class of 2008 at Bunceton School returned last week from their senior class trip to Hawaii.

It has been a tradition at Bunceton School for each class to start fundraising for their senior trip at the beginning of their ninth grade year. “As the class graduates to the next year the fundraisers become more and more involved,” said class advisor Dan Ingram.
Ingram said the classes started off with door-to-door type fundraisers in the ninth grade and continued them, even holding a full scale BBQ for the community. Proceeds from concession stands sales during ball games and tournaments went into the fund as well.

“Most of the students are involved with academic and sports competitions, adding the extra fundraising on top of all that really keeps them busy,” said Ingram. “Parents, family and the community are also a big part of the fundraising equation. Without them, the students wouldn’t be able to raise a dime. Parents are expected and required in the later years to be there next to their students during the fundraisers specifically the concession stands, and the big BBQ fundraisers,” Ingram said. “It is great to see how much the parents, family and community are willing to do in order to support the fundraising efforts for the senior trip.”

Originally the class was scheduled to go on a trip to the state of California but with several of the class members moving from the area, the California trip was cancelled and the seniors decided they wanted to go to Hawaii, where Ingram had grown up and his parents and brother’s family still reside. He retired from the Navy two years ago – his last duty station was Pearl Harbor.

On Monday, May 19 the seniors had breakfast at 7 a.m. at the Federated Church in Bunceton and by 8:30 p.m. they arrived in Honolulu, Hawaii.
