Nostalgia was in the air on Tuesday as the fifth grade David Barton classes celebrated the end of the year – and elementary school – at Lion’s Park. In a few months they’ll make the transition to middle school.
Mrs. Loesing asked her class what they would miss most about David Barton. There was a tie, with seven student votes each, for recess and the teachers. Other things that will be missed include: P.E. and math; staying in one classroom; the lunch room; and staying on one floor (no steps).
Mrs. Hurt asked her class what they really thought about leaving David Barton. Here are some of their responses: Anna Schuster heard a rumor that you get to eat ice cream; Brandon Ashpaugh’s biggest fear is getting lost in the halls; Garrett Gamel’s biggest fear is that a teacher will call on him and he won’t know the answer; and Blake Ilse-Colo’n believes next year will be great if he gets free soda at lunch.
Ms. Bryan posed this question, what was the best thing about fifth grade? One response, by Angeli Graves, was “the best thing about fifth grade was having a young, hip, cool teacher, Ms. Bryan.” She also asked the class for helpful hints about being in her class. Addyson Reardon had this advise for future fifth graders, “a helpful hint is don’t chew gum in Ms. Bryan’s class. She will see!”
