The mouth-watering aroma of barbeque filtered out the school’s front doors Friday at noon, drawing visitors past the homey western decorations across the front of David Barton School.
The specially-prepared meal was a show of appreciation for the school’s teachers, capping off a week of activities during Teacher Appreciation Week.
Dallas and Darcy Johnson, parents of fourth grade student Luke Johnson, prepared the meal.
“He’s the man,” said Luke’s teacher, Carolyn Adams as she sampled the fare. The table overflowed with barbequed ribs and baked beans, potato salad, peach cobbler and double chocolate cake. The sweet potato cake was long gone.
“Dallas was the man, too,” said secretary Joyce Albin, as she cruised through the buffet. “I remember when he was here.”
Donna Elder, vice president of the school’s Parent Teacher Association said parents volunteered to coordinate each day’s activities, all centered around the “hoe down” theme.
