Boonville, Mo. -

A Turf/Track Parent Focus Group made a presentation to the Boonville School Board during their regular board meeting on Wednesday evening. The purpose of the meeting was to get the approval of the board in order to begin the process of exploring possible options for a new track and turf at the high school.

According to Wes Davis, who presented the committee’s report to the board, right now, the field can barely hold up use during home football games and use by the band. By upgrading the area, more groups will be able to benefit. In addition to football, band and soccer will be able to use the turf as well.

The track would also be redone, allowing the track team to be able to use the facility. Last season, out of a possible 74 practice times, the track team was only able to use the track 20 times, due to drainage issues with the track.

The possibility of hosting a band day in Boonville has also long been discussed. Band director Steve Litwiller said that with the new turf that would finally be possible.
The committee, having received the board’s approval, will continue the exploratory process. They said they hope to have more information for the board by the June meeting.
