Cynthia Reeves told the Blackwater school staff at their first meeting that she is a teacher first, an administrator second.

The Blackwater School District hired Reeves earlier this month as superintendent. It is the first full-time administrative position she has held.

She has taught for 19 years, most recently in Springfield, where she worked as a lead teacher. She described her duties as being like those of an assistant principal: She was charged with ensuring that operations ran smoothly when the principal was out of the building.

Board President Deb Waller said the district received more than 30 applicants for the position and that Reeves stood “head and shoulders above them”.
