The following is a brief of the story. For the full version, see the Thursday, Aug. 6 print edition of the BDN.
On Friday July 24, the Boonville FFA Chapter held the third Annual Super Farmer Contest at the Cooper County Fair. The event was free and open to the public.
Three teams competed with members of each team between the ages of 8 and 21. Teams consisted of four team members with at least one member of the team being of the opposite sex. The team members had to compete in four individual events and one team event.
The four individual events consisted of: Straw Bale Toss in which one team member had to toss a straw bale for distance. Roping for points, in which a member had to try and rope a roping dummy around the horns or head. Nail Driving in which a member was timed while they drove three nails into a railroad tie. Horse Shoe Toss in which a member had to toss a horse shoe into rings for points.
The teams also had to compete in a team barrel race, where each member had to ride on a stick horse while racing around a barrel course.
