Boonville, Mo. -

Five years ago the Carter family moved from London, England to the United States. They decided on Boonville because “it reminds us of England,” said Karla Carter.

Karla and her husband P.W. are the parents of 13-year-old Amber Rose Carter who was recently nominated and awarded two prestigious educational opportunities. Amber was awarded a position in the United States Achievement Academy (USAA). She was also given a seat at the Joseph Baldwin Academy for three weeks this summer.

Amber just completed the eighth grade at Laura Speed Elliot Middle School and had to be nominated by a teacher for both positions. Most of Amber’s early education was completed in England. Her mother said Amber has adapted well to American education, especially U.S. government. She has also excelled in areas of science.
Amber’s teacher, Angie Kueckelhan, nominated her to the USAA for her excellence in history and government. Although those are areas where she excels, Amber’s passion is in science and architecture which is what she’ll study at the Joseph Baldwin Academy.

The USAA recognizes outstanding students in America’s colleges and secondary schools. According to their website, “in 2005-2006, nominations were received from more than 17,000 junior and senior high schools in America.” Fewer than 10 percent of all American high school students are awarded the prestigious honor.
