Prairie Home ISD 4th graders gave outstanding performances during Wednesday night’s fourth annual presentation of Famous Missourians. Each student was dressed in costume to depict their character and stationed by collective museums of information where visitors were encouraged to browse and ask questions.
The boys and girls were eager to share their knowledge of the individual chosen by each of them for the project. They where equally enthusiastic to reveal the resources used to collect the information. Museum areas were decorated with items associated with the character such as a tire and a steering wheel for NASCAR’s Carl Edwards, who was in good company with other famous Missourians including Mark Twain, Calamity Jane, Jesse James, Walt Disney and Harry S. Truman, to name a few.
The material from each museum reflected the dedication and hard work produced by this group of 9- and 10-year-olds. In the grand finale, conducted by fourth grade teacher “Mrs. G,” (Leigh Ann Grunden), each student gave a speech in first person format detailing the life and death of his or her character. Calamity Jane, complete with dirt on her face, finished the last speech of the evening in true character with “Thank y’all fer comin’.”
