Fourteen of Boonville’s smallest citizens competed for the title of “Little Miss” and “Little Mister” on Wednesday as part of the Heritage Days celebration. Thomas Acton and Kate Thieman won the competition, and get the opportunity to ride in Saturday’s parade as prince and princess. They received a crown and tiara, respectively, to commemorate the win. The contest, which was sponsored by the Boonville Chamber of Commerce, was open to kids aged four to six. During the interview process, judges looked for things like eye contact and manners.
“I just think it’s fun, honestly,” said Jessica Ellison, who organized the competition. “All of my kids did it and I wanted to keep the tradition alive.”
Nine girls and five boys participated in the contest. Originally, the coronation ceremony was set to run at Hain House, but rainstorms forced the event inside to Thespian Hall.
“Even with a quick change of venue due to the weather, it was a very nice event,” Chamber director Laura Wax said.
The Heritage Days parade will start at 10 a.m. Saturday.
