Dean Barker is retiring from Prairie Home R-V School District on May 9, 2018. Barker has been with the school district 24 years and currently teaches history, geography, government, and a dual credit political science class. He also teaches ITV to other schools, both high school and college classes.
The last week of April, Barker took his government class to the Missouri Capitol where they met with Missouri Representative Sara Walsh. Walsh presented him with a House Resolution and acknowledged his service on the House floor and House members applauded his service.
Barker was born the youngest of six, four brothers and a sister, to Burl and Jerline in Monett, Missouri.  He attended Mt. Vernon High School and SW Missouri State in Springfield.
When asked about his plans for retirement, he said, “First, I’m going to move back to Mt. Vernon. After that, I haven’t decided yet. But I’ll come back to visit.”
His parting remarks were, “I’ve really enjoyed my time here and I’ve made lots of friends. I’m going to miss the kids.”
