Cooper County Human Service Council met on Monday, April 2, at the Boonville R-I Administration Building at 736 Main St. Meeting the first Monday of each month, the meetings serve as opportunities to network, share best practices, and to learn about resources in Cooper County.
Joni Naumann is offering a 3-week Love & Logic Parenting Class on April 14, 21, & 28 from 9-11am at Riverside Christian Church. The classes help parents learn how to end arguing, back talk and begging; how to stay calm when your kids do upsetting things; avoid power struggles; and help kids learn from their mistakes, rather than repeating them. The cost is $10/per class or $25 for all three. As they build upon each other, it is best to attend all three, and all three must be attended to receive the Love & Logic Parent Certificate.
The Boonslick Center for Women’s Ministries is opening in April at 312 Center Street, Boonville. “Our mission is to be a safe place for hurting women to receive confidential and non-judgmental listening, comfort, encouragement, and support. We are here to point women to Jesus Christ and promote emotional and spiritual healing. We provide free peer counseling support groups, Bible studies, prayer support, and encouragement to hurting women in Cooper and Howard Counties.”
The Boonslick Center for Women’s Ministries is having an Open House on Sunday, April 22 between 3-6pm at 312 Center Street, Boonville. The public is invited to tour the house, see what they do every day, learn about their programs, see how you can help, and, of course, enjoy cookies and coffee.
Central Missouri Community Action (CMCA) is having their Super Gala on Thursday, May 10, between 5:30-9:00 pm at Th Millbottom in Jefferson City. There will be auctions, raffle drawings, and fun photo opportunities. Proceeds will go to CMCA, a local nonprofit working with families to help them break the cycle of poverty and achieve self-reliance. To reserve your table, call 573-777-5277.
Hometown Homecare will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary on April 25, 9am-3pm at 101 Furr St. in Fayette. Ashley Ball presented the meeting’s program. She is the Youth Development Director for the Boonslick Heartland YMCA. The Y is a Christian-based safe environment for children. Many programs are provided for after school and summer. There’s the Adventure Club, After School Fuel which provides a warm meal and a safe space after school, and Summer Day Camps. There are leadership programs for 12-16-year-olds and beginning this year, there will be Lunch in the Park in Pilot Grove and Bunceton.
The Y and CMCA are analyzing the potential need for an overnight/weekend childcare center for the Boonslick area.
