The unofficial start of summer has arrived, but Memorial Day is much more than kicking off the warmth of the coming months.

For many local citizens, this special day is set aside to remember the fallen in war, and for others it is a day to remember deceased family and friends. It is a day when individuals go to cemeteries to lay flowers on graves, bringing more colors to the landscape dotted with trees and stone.

On Friday, instead of flowers, flags were placed on graves of veterans and individuals who gave the highest sacrifice for their country. This tradition has garnered many volunteers who assist in putting flags around Boonville cemeteries. This past Friday, many showed up to help make this Memorial Day even more special.

In all, flowers along with American flags made the cemeteries very colorful and meaningful for all those who traveled to the local cemeteries.
