Kids, families pick up healthy living tips at annual Healthy Kids Day

Some of the activities were cancelled because of the cold weather, but that didn’t discourage the crowd from attending the annual event. With each booth giving away kid-friendly information on how to stay healthy, no one walked away empty handed.

Cooper County Memorial Hospital & Clinics and the Boonslick Heartland YMCA in Boonville held their annual “Healthy Kids Day” celebration on Saturday, April 12 from 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Children and families had the opportunity to learn about safety and other healthy living habits through the wide array of activities, healthy snacks and other healthy living habits.


The event started with the 5K Family Run/Walk at 9 a.m. from the YMCA on 3rd Street, followed by the many activities and booths for children at the hospital. 


Free screenings were offered including skin screening provided by Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, Amblyopia screening provided by the Missouri Lion’s Foundation and blood pressure and weight screening provided by the Boonslick Technical Education Center’s student nurses. Entertainment was provided by E-Z Tunes.


There were many activities held:  a Cookie Walk, Pop-A-Shot, tours of the Cooper County Ambulance, Cooper County Fire Truck, Staff for Life Helicopter, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol Rollover Car; Creative Art, sack races, jump roping, frisbee toss, twister games and more.


In addition, children were able to visit a wide variety of informational and educational booths sponsored by dozens of local organizations.
