April 7-11 is Cooper County Public Health Week and the Public Health Center has unveiled the new “Just One” campaign.
The theme emphasizes that a difference can be made in your health by choosing just one thing, and at the same time you can help the environment.
There are several things that the Department of Health and Senior Services says can help change your health and the environment.
Just one step, is a change that you can make by walking, blking or biking to work. If that isn’t an option, then park farther away to increase the steps that you take.
Just one choice can be as simple as choosing to recycle. Recycling is available with Boonslick Industries, Inc. and may be dropped off there or at Savvy Seconds. Other drop-off locations include: Boonslick Heartland YMCA, Eagles Lodge, United Church of Christ, David Barton School or Boonslick Area Vo-Tech School. The City of Boonville also has recycling available at their transfer station. According to a statistic released by the Public Health Center, “in 2005, the US would have needed 92 more landfills, large enough to serve the combined city populations of Dallas and Detroit, without recycling.”
Just one change could be turning the television off and going for a walk instead.
