They’ll take your ugly and your broken; your rusty and mismatched earrings. To refineries, it makes little difference what condition the jewelry is in.

With the economy stuck in a recession, the price of gold soared and people started turning jewelry boxes into their own personal ATMs.

“People are smart, they understand the market’s the highest it’s ever been,” said Matthew Enright, spokesman for Ohio Valley Gold and Silver Refinery.

The Ohio Valley refinery will will set up shop starting Tuesday until Friday at the Stein House on Main Street to purchase people’s collectibles.
