Boonville Lady Pirates basketball coach Joe Henke said his team was “completely out-matched” last night in a 49-18 loss on the road against the Jeff City Helias Crusaders.
While the loss dropped Boonville to 9-13 overall, Henke said the Lady Crusaders are an excellent team. “Helias is flat out huge and we were not able to overcome or adjust to their size and strength,” Henke said.
Helias’ size was definitely the difference as the Lady Crusaders came out and outscored Boonville 13-4 in the first and 14-6 in the second to lead by a score of 27-10. Meanwhile, in the second half, Helias again outscored Boonville 22-8 to win the game by 31.
Hackman had 20 points and Verslues 13 in the game for Helias.
For Boonville, freshman Morgan Edwards finished the game with eight points along with six rebounds and two blocked shots.
Olivia Imhoff, another freshman, had four points, two assists and one rebound. Senior Mackenzie Greis added three points, three assists and one rebound while Aly Wessing chipped in two points, three assists and one rebound, Anna Davis with one point and one rebound, Carley Esser with two rebounds, Kristin Hoff with one rebound and one steal and Sheridan Potter with one rebound.

The Boonville girls junior varsity basketball team also fell against Helias by a score of 45-32.
Helias led Boonville 17-8 after one and 28-18 at the half and then outscored the Lady Pirates 17-14 in the final-two periods for the victory.
Boonville JV coach Jessica Howell said this was a tough game for the girls against a very experienced and strong Helias team.
“I thought with the exception of the first quarter, once we settled down we played right with them,” Howell said. “I was so proud of the girls’ effort and they never gave up. We out-rebounded them considering they were much stronger and taller than us, but that shows the heart these girls have.”
Cassidy Renfrow had the high game for Boonville with 12 points. Anna Davis chipped in six while Kristin Hoff and Anna Terlep added four points each and Addy Reardon and Makenzie Ficken with two points each.
The Boonville Lady Pirates basketball team will host the Mexico Lady Bulldogs on Monday, Feb. 13 during the “Pink Out” game at the Windsor gymnasium starting at 6 p.m.
