JEFFERSON CITY — A retired colonel told those attending a Veterans Day ceremony in the state Capitol that Missourians should thank veterans for their service. And he said veterans should thank the public for their support.

About 100 people gathered Wednesday in the Capitol Rotunda for the Veterans Day ceremony. An elementary school choir sang patriotic songs and an honor guard fired rifle volleys just outside the Capitol.

Steve Rasmussen, a retired colonel who is now a Jefferson City official, said that those in the military, more than anyone, want their sacrifices to end war. He said the country can rely upon young Americans to defend its liberty and way of life.
