The following is a brief of the story. For the full version, see the Thursday, Oct. 1 print edition of the BDN.

October has arrived, the weather is turning and many parents and children are picking out costumes for the approaching Halloween holiday. October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and one Boonville woman is combining the two for an event dedicated to raising money for breast cancer research.

Dee Baker and her Breast Cancer 3-Day team, the Boot Scootin’ Boobies, are to host a costume gala Oct. 10 at the Tiger Shrine Club in Columbia. The gala is to feature two live bands, a karaoke contest, a silent auction and more. Baker said that nearly everything for the gala has been donated. She said 100 percent of funds raised will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust.

Cole County Connections and Misledd are to perform at the gala. The event is to start at 6:30 p.m. and to go until midnight. Costumes are optional but encouraged, Baker said.

Tickets to the costume gala are $15 per person. Those interested in getting more information may e-mail Boot_Scootin2009@hotmail.com or visit the team’s Web site, boot-scootin-boobies.110mb.com.
