Boonville is expected to get between 2 and 4 inches of snow in a storm that is expected to bring dangerously cold weather and strong winds to mid-Missouri, according to the National Weather Service.
The Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for cities including Boonville at 2:36 today, effective from 9 a.m. Wednesday to 6 p.m. Thursday. Snow accumulation is expected to happen throughout Wednesday, followed by flurries in the early hours of Thursday, the Weather Service stated.
An arctic cold front is expected to bring winds of 20 to 25 mph to the area by Wednesday night with gusts as high as 40 mph possible Thursday. Those winds are expected to "create significant blowing and drifting of snow with near blizzard conditions possible at times," the Weather Service stated. "Visibilities will be reduced to below one half-mile with roads becoming nearly impassible — especially over rural and open areas."
Wind chill values of 15 degrees below zero to 25 degrees below zero are possible Thursday, "creating a potentially life-threatening situation for anyone caught outdoors and unprotected for more than a few minutes," the Weather Service stated.
