Allen Waldo of Bolivar has been named the next permanent chief executive of Cooper County Memorial Hospital by its board of trustees, the board's chairman said this morning.

“We’re excited to have him with us,” Mike Conway said today.

Waldo is finishing up work with his current employer, a consulting company, and is expected to start working in Cooper County on about Jan. 25, Conway said. Waldo’s resume includes a number of health facilities larger than Cooper County’s hospital, Conway said.

The announcement comes following the October termination of former CEO Jeffrey Durham in connection with a felony theft conviction. Conway has said Durham is not suspected of having engaged in any wrongdoing during his tenure at the hospital. The outcome of a forensic audit by the firm GKD confirms that no wrongdoing was committed during Durham's tenure, Conway said during the board's meeting Wednesday night.

Other highlights from the meeting included:

  • Hospital official Brenda Campbell said the hospital's 2009 gross income "was lower than expected."
  • The board decided to approve the 2010 budget, a purchase of a $2 million DNO Insurance coverage plan and the hiring of two additional employees to help with collecting services for accounts receivable.
  • The board decided to purchase two EKG machines for $7,980.
