The Boonville Pirates football team snapped a six-game losing streak during season openers by beating the Pleasant Hill Roosters Friday night by a score of 19-14. Boonville senior receiver LaTavius Shelby eludes a Pleasant Hill defender on his way to the end zone in the fourth quarter. Shelby’s 9-yard scamper proved to be the difference in the game.

The Boonville Pirates football team accomplished three feats Friday night in the season opener against the Pleasant Hill Roosters.

Along with winning the game 19-14 to start the season at 1-0, the Pirates also snapped a five-game losing streak against the Roosters. But more importantly, Boonville snapped a six-game losing streak in season openers.

Of course this game didn’t come easily. Aside from out-gaining Pleasant Hill 414-306 and out-playing the Roosters 13-0 after the first-two quarters, the Pirates still had to come from behind while scoring the go-ahead touchdown at the 4:44 mark in the fourth quarter on a 9-yard run by senior receiver LaTavius Shelby to make it a five-point ballgame.
