Today’s newspaper is one for the archives – The Record will be joining the history of other earlier versions of the BDN as the newspaper launches the BDN Weekend next week.
While many things about the BDN Weekend will be new, some things will remain the same: the paper will continue to have a total market circulation, with distribution to more than 10,300 households in Cooper and Howard counties.
Those who have traditionally received The Record by mail on Wednesdays will now receive the BDN Weekend on Wednesdays or Thursdays (depending on where they live), complete with grocery circulars and other advertising inserts. This paper will continue to include the area events calendar as well as classified listings. Boonville subscribers who have home delivery by carrier or motor route, will receive the BDN Weekend edition with their Thursday paper.
On Friday mornings, the BDN Weekend will be placed in the paper’s 15 newsstands throughout the area.
The BDN Weekend will focus on area festivals and entertainment, and will feature how-to, home improvement, travel and health-related articles – the projects typically undertaken by families during their valuable weekend time.
In addition, a new columnist, Liz Davis, will be featured in the BDN Weekend. Her column, Historically Yours, will focus on Civil War trivia, much of it related to Missouri. Her first column is on page 3 of today’s paper.
With the launch of the BDN Weekend, readers will notice changes to the daily paper as well.
The BDN will now be published on a Monday through Thursday schedule, and those who subscribe will receive the BDN Extra on Friday afternoons. This BDN Extra will include local news and sports coverage, as well as “celebration of life” items such as birth and engagement announcements, weddings and anniversarys.
In addition, subscribers will now receive complete TV guide listings in the daily paper, with the listings for the next day’s programming. The weekly TV guide insert will no longer be printed.
Although the BDN Extra will not be available in newsstands, it will be available for single copy purchase at the newspaper office, 412 E. High Street.
“This is a better news package for our readers with more comprehensive coverage,” said publisher Deborah Marshall. “With a weekend edition, we are bringing our readers more arts and culture, more weekend events and weekend projects.”
In addition to these changes with its printed products, the online version of the BDN will get a facelift next month as well.
“We are very excited as a company to make these changes, and to provide more to our readers and advertisers,” said Marshall.
