Sedalia Premiere Arts Festival organizers call for artists

Coming Saturday, Sept. 24 in Downtown Sedalia, the Queen of the Prairies Festival of the Arts will make its debut. 

The festival will feature a Kids Alley with a walk-thru locomotive air sculpture, a chalk drawing contest and professional chalk artist, Craig Thomas, artists’ booths, food, strolling docents and musicians and so much more, including an After Dark Concert with band – 2 Buck Drunk. Currently, the festival committee is accepting applications for artists, food vendors, and the chalk drawing contest.  Booth fees for artists and food vendors are only $50, electricity and jury fees (no jury fee for food vendors) have additional fees. Prize money will be awarded to the artist with the best of show--$300, first place--$200, second--$150 and third--$100.  

The Chalk It Up! Contest is sponsored by the Cooney Foundation for the Arts and will allow participants, individually or in teams of two, to compete for prize money of up to $100 in each division. There is a $25 (individual) or $35 (team) entry fee. There are only 24, eight by eight spaces available, so early registration is encouraged.  The contest will take place on the courthouse square.

The Liberty Center celebrates the arts within our community. We promote the arts in the community and coordinate and promote cultural and artistic activities that enhance an appreciation for all facets of creative expression as well as an appreciation for the diversity in the region.
