Twenty-two Boonville students performed with the Missouri Youth Honor Choirs sponsored by the Missouri Choral Directors Association on July 20 in Jefferson City.
These students under the instruction of Esther Enderle competed for a place in the 120 member choirs by preparing individual recorded audition tapes which included vocalizing, a cappella singing, and a prepared solo.
The recordings were submitted to a panel of judges, and the students selected met in Jefferson City to rehearse together with nationally-known directors. The students then presented concerts for the opening day of the choral directors’ summer convention.
Choral director for the 7 - 8 grades Missouri Youth Honor Choir was Connie Drosakis.
Ms. Drosakis, a product of the Palm Beach County Schools, taught for 14 years at Christa McAuliffe Middle School and is currently in her eleventh year as choral director at Bak Middle School of the Arts.
Since 2002, Ms. Drosakis has served as Assistant Conductor for Young Singers of the Palm Beaches, a community based youth choir with 230 members in five choirs ranging in ages from 10 to 18.
Boonville students selected for this choir were: Michaela Lenz, soprano; Savannah Worthington, soprano; Samantha Abel, alto; Morgan Edwards, alto; Makenzie Ficken, alto; Austin Andrews, tenor; Zach Huntsperger, tenor; Brett McNeal, bass; Noah Rogers, bass; Ben Rumbaoa, bass; and Ryder Mesik, bass
Sandra Snow was the director of the 9 – 10 grades Missouri Youth Honor Choir. Dr. Snow is Professor of Music at Michigan State University where she conducts the Michigan State University Women's Chamber Ensemble and interacts with undergraduate and graduate students in areas of conducting study, choral pedagogy, and teacher education.
Students selected for this choir were: Frankie Vollrath, soprano; Kate Stodgel, soprano; Taylor Tutin, soprano; Breanna Worthington, soprano; Taylor Fry, alto; Kendra Farmer, alto; Gabrielle LaMoore, alto; Ian Pond, bass; Adam Christal, bass; Brendan Twenter, bass, Cody Painter, bass, Forrest Hage, bass.
