'Voice of Boonville Pirates' passes away

At 8 a.m. Monday morning, Boonville resident and 'Voice of the Boonville Pirates' Dane Gregg passed away at his home in the Village of Windsor.
Gregg had been battling esophageal cancer, which had recently spread throughout his body.
Throughout his life in Boonville, Gregg was involved with many organizations such as The University of Missouri Extension, Village of Windsor, Boonville's Cooper Lodge, Neighbors Helping Neighbors Food Pantry and many others.
Gregg spent 30 years with KWRT 1370 AM Radio as the sports announcer who quickly became the 'Voice of the Pirates.' Gregg became the main announcer for the radio station when longtime host Ted Bleil retired.
Gregg hosted the daily KWRT Party Line and other morning shows such as Keeping Good Company. Gregg retired from KWRT more than two weeks ago because of health reasons and to devote more time with family.
Gregg's faith was center in his life. A prayer service was held Saturday, March 8. More than 150 community members gathered to speak about what Gregg meant to them and to pray for him and his family.
Throughout the past week, Gregg was visited by many of his close friends and family.
