Pursuit ends in death of Boonville man

A high speed westbound pursuit ended in the death of a Boonville man Saturday morning.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 66 year old Boonville resident Clyde Topel was driving a 1989 Buick Sylark being pursued by law enforcement. The pursuit ended near the Highway 135 and Highway 41 junction in western Cooper County when Topel lost control, struck a guard rail and became airborne and struck the ground. The vehicle was totaled.
Cooper County Coroner pronounced Topel dead at 9:41 a.m.
Due to the ongoing investigation no additional details are available at this time. It is not known why Topel was being pursued by law enforcement.
The Boonville Police Department and Cooper County Sheriff's assisted the Highway Patrol with the accident.
